Yvonne I Cummings believes in giving back and has dedicated much of her 40-year professional career to public service in New York City. She retired as Senior Director of Finance after a 29-year career with NYC Health + Hospitals, a $7 billion public benefit corporation; the largest public health care system in the US where she assumed responsibility for revenue cycle operations. In her capacity, Yvonne is proudest of her lead role in developing and overseeing the “HHC Options”, the Charity Care Program that ensures access to affordable health care to every financially eligible person living in NYC regardless of legal residency or immigration status. While pondering life after retirement, she was approached by current IMPACCT Brooklyn member about serving on its board. Yvonne was willing to take on the challenge of becoming a board member of this organization after learning about IMPACCT Brooklyn’s mission and reputation in the community of being a standard-bearer for preserving and developing affordable housing in addition to its other work in assisting tenants and small businesses in Fort Greene, Clinton Hill and Central Brooklyn. For 7 years, Yvonne was a Co-op board director of the 1221 Unit Clinton Hill Apartments Cooperative located in Clinton Hill and for 5 of the 7, she served as its Vice President. She is a former member of her undergraduate alma mater, SUNY Oneonta’s Foundation Board; the foundation raises funds and administers gifts and grants for student scholarship, student and faculty research, and institutional programs and she was co-chair or one of the most successful fund-raising campaigns at SUNY Oneonta, The 125th Anniversary Campaign: “Possibilities Full of Promise”
Yvonne’s unique and varied experience and perspectives are an invaluable asset to IMPACCT Brooklyn as we face the challenges to safeguard access to affordable housing and for providing space and expertise within the community for small businesses to grow and thrive.
