Ms. Esther John, a homeowner in Bedford Stuyvesant, had kind words for the Home Services Team. “They are a remarkable group of women. They are very established in the expertise that they impart. I appreciate their kindness and patience. I really appreciate them and cooking a little bit of food is just my way of showing appreciation.”
Ms. John worked with our HUD certified counselors on a mortgage modification as well as financial literacy counseling and managing her budget. The Team works with many individuals and families that suffer hardship paying their mortgage, due to loss of income, an unmanageable mortgage agreement or other issues that may arise for homeowners. Over a twelve month period, we worked diligently with local residents to modify their mortgage to save more than 200 homes from foreclosure. IMPACCT’s mortgage intervention services are free to the public. But in the case of Ms. John, her gratefulness was expressed by sharing a succulent Caribbean dish from her native country with the counselors that worked tirelessly on her case.
