IMPACCT Brooklyn's Social Services team gets into the holiday spirit

We’re also incredibly proud of our Social Services team for their holiday spirit! They each adorned their desks with their most festive decor, with Santa’s Workshop ekeing out a victory — but we think everyone was a winner.

By the way, did you get a chance to watch our Manager of Affordable Housing Marketing LaToya Campbell on BRIC TV yet? If you haven’t, take a few minutes to learn exactly what defines affordability!

Don’t forget that our Community & Tenant Organizing team wants to celebrate your victories in 2017 and outline our community’s goals for 2018. Join us for a Dinner with a Purpose on Thursday, Dec. 21. RSVP today!

How is your community recognizing and celebrating the holiday season? Share a photo or video of your neighborhood getting in the spirit — don’t forget to tag us with #impacctbk!

New York Times: De Blasio Seeks to Turn Homeless ‘Cluster Sites’ Into Affordable Housing

Under the plan, the city would use public financing to help nonprofits buy roughly a third of the apartments currently used for the homeless, and then convert the apartments into affordable units, helping the mayor fulfill two goals: lowering homelessness and adding to the city’s affordable housing stock.

Gotham Gazette: Brooklyn Armory Deal, and Larger De Blasio Development Debate, Move Toward Term Two

For the city’s part, the $50 million in public funds will pay for 250 units of subsidized housing, set aside for households making between about $25,000 and $51,000 per year for a family of three, HPD said. In the deal, BFC will use income from the 150 market-rate rentals on the site to operate and maintain the recreation center. The company is projected to make an annual profit. A spokesperson did not return multiple requests for that projected amount.

To Torres-Springer, the city’s job in a deal such as the armory is “making sure that we are stretching every public dollar as much as we can.”

Brooklyn Paper: Blockhead! Photographer captures joy of the block party

A Crown Heights photographer has spent more than 10 years shooting the borough’s block parties, and he will show off his images at the “Block Party” exhibit at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, opening on Dec. 16. The artist began shooting the ubiquitous street festivals in 2005, and says he became serious about the hobby when he realized that no one else was documenting the neighborhood events.

NBC New York: These Were the Most Expensive Neighborhoods in NYC in 2017

Like Boerum Hill, Fort Greene saw a boost from these new luxury condos. In fact, Fort Greene had the highest median price growth, with its median sale price nearly doubling since last year. Because of the jump, Fort Greene went from the 88th most expensive neighborhood in the city to the 27th in just one year, PropertyShark said. It’s now tied with long-trendy Chelsea in Manhattan.
