Today, November 30th, marks Shirley Chisholm Day—a momentous tribute to an extraordinary daughter of Brooklyn who redefined what is possible.
Shirley Chisholm was more than a politician; she was a revolutionary. As the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress and a fearless advocate for justice, equity, and small businesses, her unwavering belief in uplifting communities continues to inspire us.
Her iconic words, “Service is the rent we pay for the privilege of living on this earth,” remind us of the work we must do to ensure a thriving, equitable Brooklyn. There is so much more that grows in Brooklyn, beyond Trees!
This year, I had the pleasure of hosting two community events. This is the beginning of a series of gatherings to engage community across Brooklyn and chart IMPACCT Brooklyn’s next 60 years. We are bringing together community leaders, stakeholders, and small business owners to envision and shape our collective future. We hope to see you amongst the crowd.
We’re excited to be part of Brooklyn.org’s Giving Tuesday campaign, “Brooklyn GIVES,” which amplifies the critical work of nonprofits serving our borough. We invite you to make a direct gift to IMPACCT Brooklyn on December 3rd.
