Building Independent and
Living below the poverty line impacts every aspect of a person’s life: mental health, physical health, ability to cope with daily problems. Many of the tenants in our housing units are formerly homeless and live with chronic illnesses.
IMPACCT Brooklyn’s social services department provides intensive case management and support services for individuals to reach their optimal level of self-reliance and independence. We ensure that critical needs other than housing are met — adequate food, physical and mental health care, and socialization — for people who are struggling to move out of poverty and dependence. We give people the break they need to regroup and get back on track with their lives.
How We Help
Overcoming the Effects of Poverty
The tenants in our buildings get more than a roof over their heads. We provide compassionate, responsive care and personal counseling to help them cope with challenges, and we give them the tools they need to improve their quality of life in the long term. Every encounter with a resident is regarded as an opportunity to influence and improve their health and well-being.
- Providing housing and social services for formerly homeless people.
- Teaching tenants how to stay healthy through good nutrition and physical fitness.
- Providing hot meals and pain management to help tenants stay healthy.
- Helping tenants navigate the healthcare and government benefit systems.
- Accompanying tenants to medical appointments.
- Visiting tenants in their homes to ensure that they have the care they need and are not isolated.
“Gibb Mansion helped me to open up and let people in. The staff at Gibb Mansion work with us, helping us to break free … I wasn’t socializing with people much. It’s a wonderful place to be, it’s a wonderful place to grow, a wonderful place to learn.”
