Make Brooklyn Count 100

BROOKLYN: DON’T LEAVE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON THE TABLE! Low Census count robs our neighborhoods of funding for education, healthcare, housing, infrastructure, and much more. Do your part to #MakeBrooklynCount100% and fill out the 2020 Census TODAY at https://2020census.gov or by calling 844-330-2020!

What is the Census?

The census counts every person living in the United States. It only happens every ten years.

The Census determines:

  • Hundreds of billions in federal funds for public education, health care, affordable housing, infrastructure and more;
  • The number of seats Brooklyn has in Congress;
  • How we make important decisions about local policy, emergency services, transportation, health care, and more based on accurate data.

To date, Brooklyn has the lowest response rates in New York City for the 2020 Census. Only 51.3% of Brooklyn (Kings County) households have responded to the 2020 Census, compared to the national average of 62.6% (as of July 28, 2020).

BROOKLYN: WE ARE LEAVING BILLIONS OF DOLLARS ON THE TABLE FOR MANY THINGS OUR COMMUNITIES DESPERATELY NEED! IMPACCT Brooklyn is one of several Community Based Organizations who is working to make sure that all persons in our communities are counted in Census 2020. THE DEADLINE TO RESPOND TO THE CENSUS IS SEPTEMBER 30TH. AFTER SEPTEMBER 30TH IT WILL BE TOO LATE! NOW IS THE TIME TO TAKE ACTION AND MAKE BROOKLYN COUNT 100%. Respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail.

Every single household should have received official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail. This will include the unique bar code to make it easier to use when filling out the Census. Alternatively, the 2020 Census is now live if you prefer to fill it out online. Lastly, starting in July, census takers started visiting homes that haven’t yet responded to the 2020 Census. Here is what to expect from those coming to your home.

A few important reminders about the census:

  • There are no questions related to immigration or citizenship on the 2020 Census.
  • The census only has 10 questions, and does not ask about your employment, income, or Social Security number.
  • The information you provide to the census is safe. The U.S. Census Bureau is prohibited by law from sharing your information with anyone, and doing so is a crime punishable by up to five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine.
  • The census is for everyone, regardless of immigration or citizenship status or housing situation. New Yorkers living with friends, family members, roommates, other families, or even in unlawful housing units, can and should participate in the 2020 Census.
  • By law, census information can only be used for statistical purposes, and cannot be used against an individual or family in any way. The Census Bureau cannot share any personal information with any government agencies, private individuals, or companies. This includes immigration enforcement, law enforcement, any other federal, state, or city agencies, and landlords.
