IMPACCT Brooklyn Launches New Housing Lottery Training Series

IMPACCT Brooklyn’s Marketing Team kicked off its housing efforts by hosting the first Affordable Housing Lottery Seminar of the year on January 13, 2016. This event, which drew over 200 participants was held at Uncommon High School’s Pacific Street location.

This event was not only the first seminar of the year, but it was also the first at IMPACCT’s new Crown Heights location. During the evening, Stephanie Blue, IMPACCT’s Director of Housing Marketing discussed the process and how participants could improve their chances. 2016 is expected to be a busy year as many lottery applications will open in Brooklyn alone. Historically, hundreds of thousands of applicants apply for housing lotteries each year. But many of these developers struggle to fill the number of community preference slots. An overwhelming majority of community applicants will be rejected due to minor application errors. The new program will provide training in applying for and navigating through the process of seeking one of the many new affordable housing units coming on the market.

During the second half of the event, the Financial Counselor gave information on how to prepare your credit for housing applications and how your score can affect the outcome of your application. Credit scores are one of the top reasons applicants get rejected.

“These seminars are so important because of the lack of affordable housing and surge in NYC housing lotteries. Many people don’t know how to go about the process, so IMPACCT’s goal is to let apartment-seekers know they can turn to us for information or help. ”, added Ms. Blue. Be sure to visit IMPACCT Brooklyn and NYC’s Dept. of Housing Preservation and Development website frequently to keep abreast of available housing opportunities.
