IMPACCT BROOKLYN RECEIVES $250,000 TO ADDRESS RENTAL BURDEN CRISIS

Brooklyn, March 4, 2021 – IMPACCT Brooklyn has been named one of 32 recipients of the 15th Annual Housing For Everyone grant program from the TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank.

IMPACCT Brooklyn’s mission is to contribute to the development of the community; we:

  • preserve and create affordable and supportive housing;
  • promote and support the development of small businesses and vibrant commercial corridors;
  • and inform, organize, and galvanize members of the community to be civically engaged.

We believe fulfilling the fundamental right to affordable housing is a cornerstone for establishing human well-being, preventing displacement, and enhancing economic, racial, and cultural diversity.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, IMPACCT Brooklyn has collected information regarding the needs of families residing in Central Brooklyn. Our Eviction Prevention Initiative is centered on assisting families with resources to support safe housing and avoiding eviction. We are repositioning our workforce and creating a Tenant Engagement Specialist position to provide information and to coordinate resources for the community at large.

“IMPACCT Brooklyn has developed an initiative to help COVID-19 -impacted families avoid eviction and remain in safe, affordable housing” said Andy Bregenzer, EVP, Metro New York Regional President, TD Bank. “Being awarded the 15th Annual Housing For Everyone grant is an acknowledgement of IMPACCT BROOKLYN’s dedication to ensuring an inclusive recovery from the pandemic.”

The Housing For Everyone grant competition supports TD’s longstanding commitment to community enrichment through TD’s corporate citizenship platform, the TD Ready Commitment. The TD Ready Commitment seeks to help people feel more confident, not just about their finances, but about their future. It is driven by a central belief that together we can help build inclusive futures where everyone has the opportunity to succeed in a changing world. As part of the TD Ready Commitment, TD targets US $775 million in total by 2030 towards community giving in four critical areas: Financial Security, a more Vibrant Planet, Connected Communities and Better Health. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic had an immense and disproportionate impact on those most vulnerable, including renters and that’s why the 2020 Housing For Everyone program focused on organizations working to keep families and individuals who rent in their homes.

“The support from TD Charitable Foundation will help ensure many BIPOC and LMI residents maintain their affordable housing, despite experiencing financial challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Bernell Grier, Executive Director.

In total, TD Charitable Foundation awarded $4.9 million for the 2020 Housing For Everyone program, as part of the more than $20 million that TD has allocated to help strengthen community resilience and COVID-19 recovery through the TD Community Resilience Initiative.
