IMPACCT Brooklyn’s Tenant and Community Organizing Team helps Brooklyn tenants by advocating for their rights to timely repairs by their landlords and guarding against illegal evictions and harassment. Thanks to a collaboration between IMPACCT Brooklyn and start up JustFix.nyc, Brooklynites have a new tool to protect tenants’ rights: the JustFix.nyc Tenant App.
The app helps tenants document instances of landlord neglect and harassment by using their smart phones or computer to collect photos and complaints.
“This tool will be a great asset to community-based organizations working to assist residents by helping the tenants gather and hold on to a complete record of evidence,” said Shayla Austin, Lead Community Organizer for IMPACCT Brooklyn. “The hardest part of assisting a resident is a lack of documented evidence. The ability to store important documents and pictures can be the key difference in being able to help a tenant stay in their home or be evicted.”
The JustFix.nyc app allows IMPACCT Brooklyn to view and monitor tenant complaints on its Advocate Dashboard, centralizing cases making complaint filing in housing courts faster and more efficient. Use of this breakthrough technology will facilitate more successful resolutions for tenants and increase IMPACCT Brooklyn’s capacity to assist more New Yorkers.
