This past fall, our community organizers ramped up their programming to provide more for the children in the communities we serve. The first event in this initiative was our 1st Annual Back to School event. At the event we were able to provide over 100 children with book bags filled with school supplies. So with the success of the back to school drive, our community organizers decided to continue the momentum and hold a toy drive throughout the holiday season. Toys were given out at a pizza party on Saturday, December 12th.
At the toy giveaway, organizers and volunteers turned up the holiday cheer and shared the warmth of the season. Michelle H an IMPACCT tenant told volunteers with a smile, “IMPACCT helped me get an apartment and now they are giving us gifts for our kids.”. Charles T, IMPACCT volunteer, pitched in to help at the event. He said, “It was such a pleasure to see the smiling faces of the children and families with their toys.”
We would like to thank State Farm, NYC Administration for Children’s Services and The Washington Avenue Prospect Heights Merchant Association for sponsoring our giveaways. Local residents, volunteers and leaders donated time and resources to make the drives possible.
